BSNL Ignores Warnings of Massive Database Vulnerability

A prominent whitehat hacker has contacted Tech2.com with details of a massive potential security breach of BSNL’s corporate network, which the public-sector telecom giant has so far failed to respond to. Our contact, who doesn’t want to be named, tells us that his emails to every publicly available contact address, including full details and screenshots, have been ignored for well over a month. It’s only a matter of time before someone with malicious intent takes advantage of the hole, he adds.

Toshiba Rolls out Android 4.0 for 10 Inch Thrive tablet



The Toshiba Thrive tablet features a 10.1 inch display, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, and a few features you won’t find on many other Android tablets including a removable battery and full-sized USB and HDMI ports.

Toshiba discontinued the Thrive this year to make room for newer, thinner, and faster tablets. But the company is starting to roll out an over-the-air software update for anyone that has last year’s model.

While the tablet originally shipped with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the software update brings Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich to the Thrive.

Toshiba says the update also improves audio, video, and camera performance as well as better wireless signal strength.

Google’s self-driving car project is probably one of the most audacious experiments the company has embarked upon. Today, Google announced another milestone for this project: its fleet of about a dozen autonomous cars has now driven 300,000 miles without a single accident under computer control. While this is obviously very positive news for the project, Google warns that “there’s still a long road ahead.” The cars still need to learn how to handle snow-covered roads, for example, and how to interpret temporary construction signs and other situations that could throw its systems for a loop.

It’s not clear how many of these 300,000 miles were driven on Google’s secret racecourse, by the way.

Elecom Announces Worlds First NFC Keyboard

 
Japanese technology company Elecom has announced that the world’s first keyboard that connects with smartphones by the near field communication (NFC) system. The keyboard, which costs a whopping $240, has the same overall shape as a regular keyboard, except there is a large space in the middle where the phone is placed, keeping the typing keys on both sides. Users do nothing more than lay their Android handset down on the device, and then begin typing.

HTC Sense 4.1 - Fast,Stable & Awesome Battery Life

HTC’s latest flagship smartphone lineup, the One series, is expected to receive the HTC Sense 4.1 update in the near future.

The information has been leaked by the XDA-developer forum and they give detailed information about what the new UI will bring to the table.

The biggest advantage of the update is that it makes the UI very snappy and also has a positive effect on the battery life of the devices. Unfortunately, the update does not bring with it Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but it does update Android on the device from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 which in itself brings some improvements to the OS.

Some more improvements included in the update are better live wallpaper performance, inclusion of a dedicated camera button which lets you switch between the front and rear camera, removal of 3D effects from the home screen to remove lag, Added ability to remap the recent apps button/long-press recent app and more.

Just Forward Unsolicited SMS to 1909 to Punish Sender


Tired of pesky text messages? Forwarding it to a designated number is all it will take to initiate action against the telemarketer, according to a proposal by the telecom regulator on Friday, which included a hefty penalty on unregistered telemarketers as well.

In a consultation paper, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has suggested that unregistered telemarketers sending unsolicited commercial communication be charged Rs 500 per message. After 10 such instances, the marketer's phone connection will be disconnected.

All that mobile users are required to do is forward the unwanted message to a dedicated number - 1909 - and action will be initiated against the errant SMS sender. Web and email-based complaint registration is also on the anvil.

iBall Ropes In Kareena Kapoor As Brand Ambassador

iBall, one of the fastest growing digital products firms, has roped in Kareena Kapoor as brand ambassador for its smartphone called Andi.

It also plans to launch at least a few first-time-in-India products in its Andi smartphone series in the next few months.

The company, known for its innovation, had earlier roped in Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan to endorse its iBall Slide range of tablet PCs.

“Kareena is a youth icon. Her hard work makes her a performance-powered actor and besides, she has always been associated with style, glamour, vibrancy and all things chic. She is also known for setting trends and doing things differently,” said Sandeep Parasrampuria, Director of iBall.
