Turn your Mobile Phone into a Microphone Using Dragon 12

Nuance’s latest speech recognition software, Dragon 12 aims to change how you work, communicate, and create content. This latest iteration, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 has been designed to turn talk into text faster and more accurately than its previous versions. Users only need to speak to capture ideas, create content, browse email, search the Web, or control their PCs.

Dragon 12 also lets users convert their iOS or Android device into a wireless microphone, using the free Dragon Remote Microphone App. It turns the compatible iPhone, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad or Android device into a wireless microphone for use with Dragon over a Wi-Fi network. To start the app, users can use the camera on their device to scan the barcode that Dragon 12 provides on-screen (Available in Dragon Home Edition and above).

Dragon 12 promises up to 20 percent improvement, and out of the box accuracy compared with its earlier version, Dragon 11. It also learns word correction; so if you do make a correction to the converted text, Dragon learns from it. Formatting issues are taken care of as well. The first time you choose your preferences, Dragon 12 will learn them and observe when you make a change to the formatting. The next time text is dictated, it is formatted the way you first chose it.

There is an interactive tutorial for newbies as well. As per Dragon's website, "A new interactive tutorial in Dragon 12 guides you through fun exercises that demonstrate best practices for dictating, editing and formatting so that you can get up and running quickly. Proposed at the end of profile creation and available at any time from the Help menu, the Interactive Tutorial in Dragon 12 offers short progressive simulations to help you practice good dictation, correction and editing habits so that you can create text efficiently within just a few minutes. Even experienced Dragon users can benefit from the Interactive Tutorial".

Also, there is wideband Bluetooth support. When the software detects a USB dongle or a certified microphone plugged in, it allows ‘Enhanced Bluetooth’ as a type of an audio source. This feature is available in the premium edition and above. Additionally, it supports Gmail and Hotmail. Dragon 12 allows complete text control and commands for the actions most carried out used in Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 12 or higher, and Google Chrome 16 or higher.
