High Court Orders to Unblock All Sites!!

File sharing sites such as the pirate bay and video sites like Vimeo had been blocked by several ISPs to comply with the John Doe orders (orders against unnamed entities) given by Madras High Court earlier this month. According to latest media reports, Madras High court has given orders that in such cases only the violating content links (urls) should be blocked and not the entire site.

According to ToI, the Madras High Court in its latest order said: "The interim injunction [dated April 25] is granted only in respect of a particular URL where the infringing movie is kept and not in respect of the entire website. Further, the applicant is directed to inform about the particulars of URL where the interim movie is kept within 48 hours."

The John Doe orders had created lot of furor and netizens had severely criticized ISP’s for blocking entire websites due to which lot of legitimate content was also blocked causing inconvenience to many Internet users and businesses. Hacker group annonymous had brought down several government websites and even organized protests in several cities in India.

From copyright content owner perspective, they will now have to be very specific about their requests – Instead of just naming a particular website, they will now have to provide specific urls to be blocked.
After this recent court order most of the websites which were blocked have been restored and users are now able to access them.
